Worship · Shabbat Services

A time to pause, reflect, and reconnect

Shabbat is the centre of Jewish communal life at City Shul.

Each week, we gather to welcome Shabbat through prayer, music, learning, and community.

Together, we create a space that feels both grounded in Jewish tradition and connected to the realities of contemporary life. Whether you attend regularly or are joining us for the first time, you’ll find a warm welcome and a meaningful experience.

A Shabbat service at City Shul

Participatory and engaging

Designed to be shared, not observed

City Shul’s services are designed to be participatory rather than performative. Members and guests are invited to take part in many aspects of worship, including reading Torah, leading prayers, sharing reflections, and helping create a welcoming environment.

There is never any expectation that newcomers participate. You’re welcome to engage at whatever level feels comfortable.

Tradition with openness

Inclusive, egalitarian, alive

Our services draw on the richness of Jewish tradition while embracing an inclusive and egalitarian approach to community life. Hebrew and English are used throughout, helping people with different levels of Jewish knowledge participate meaningfully.

Music, learning, and reflection are woven into the experience, creating opportunities for both spiritual connection and intellectual engagement.

Community after Shabbat services

Community beyond the service

The connections matter as much as the prayers

For many people, the connections formed before and after services are just as meaningful as the service itself. Shabbat at City Shul often includes opportunities for conversation, learning, celebration, and community gathering – a chance to deepen relationships and build community.
