Good books spark good conversation.
City Shul Reads brings readers together to discuss books across Judaism, Israel, and Jewish identity. Members choose titles as a group, drawing on each other’s suggestions and respected reading lists.
How it works
Read together, think together
The group meets about every two months for relaxed, thoughtful conversation. Books are chosen by members – sometimes from a fellow reader’s suggestion, sometimes from curated lists of notable Jewish writing.
You don’t need to be a fast reader or a literature expert. If you enjoy a good book and good company, you’ll feel right at home.

Every couple of months
What we read
Three threads run through our list
✓JudaismBooks that explore Jewish thought, practice, and tradition.
✓IsraelWriting that engages with Israel’s history, culture, and life.
✓Jewish identityStories and ideas about who we are and how we belong.
